05The guide

Framing your photos

Why add a border to a photo

A border gives a picture room to breathe. A thin white frame makes a photo look printed and finished, a black edge gives a gallery feel, and a coloured one ties a set of pictures to your brand. On Instagram, a white border is the classic way to post a tall or wide photo without cutting anything off.

This tool adds the border around the picture, so nothing is cropped. Drop one photo or a whole set, choose the thickness and the colour, and every image updates at once.

Choosing thickness and colour

The thickness is measured as a share of the photo’s short side, so a 5 % border looks the same on a tall portrait and a wide landscape, and a batch of mixed photos stays consistent. Around 3 % is a fine line, 5 to 8 % a classic white frame, and 12 % or more a wide gallery mat.

Pick white for a clean, bright look, black for drama, cream for a softer print feel, or orange and sky blue for a bolder style. For a square Instagram post, add the border here first, then open the result in CutLift and crop it to 1:1.

Batch, formats and privacy

Drop up to 100 photos and download them one by one or as a single ZIP. Each file keeps its own format: a JPG stays a JPG and a PNG stays a PNG. Everything happens in your browser on your own device, so your photos are never uploaded. Converting is free with no watermark, and a free CutLift account unlocks the downloads. It works on iPhone, Android and computers with no app to install.
